Life in a pressure cooker
Couldn’t we all use a vacation right now? LIke the ones where you are sitting on a beach with an umbrella drink or mocktail in your hand?
You want to stay up on the news AND the news is making you anxious. Health insurance is ridiculously expensive and your salary doesn’t seem to be keeping up. I hear you. There are many people feeling exactly how you are right now.
So what do you do? Staying active in a cause you believe in is really important. It’s easy to feel powerless when you are just watching things happen and feel like there is nothing you CAN do. The good news is that in getting active in causes that you believe in, you might just find community and that is what is going to help all of us.
There is a universal need of belonging in humans, we even see it in animals too. We have become so fragmented in the world these days, all in our own worlds, our own devices (literally), and becoming more disconnected from what makes us who we are.
There are many times I don’t want to do anything. Especially if you live in a cold place, I would much rather stay under my heated blanket than out in the snow and freezing weather. But, I find that whenever I force myself to go out to a party or gathering with friends, I feel so much better afterwards. I feel connected and in my flow.
So, life in a pressure cooker is isolating and overwhelming. Take yourself out of it. Make friends. Learn how to do something new, find a cause you believe in and find out how to get involved. It’s important for your mental health and to belong to something. It’s important to the world that you do, too.
