Meet Drew Rabidoux, lcsw

It’s time to invest in yourself.

I’m a New York based therapist specializing in working with women in various stages of relationship changes, motherhood, trauma processing, and leveling up in life and creating a life that you are excited to live.

I want you to truly hear this:

“Being human is not hard because you’re doing it wrong. It’s hard because you’re doing it right.” Glennon Doyle

At the core of my approach to therapy is a belief that you are doing the best you can. A series of things that have happened in your life, chosen or not, influence your approach and response. I want to help you make it your choice and create a life that you enjoy living.

Hey there!

I have enjoyed having my own practice since 2019 but have been in this field over half of my life. I’ve benefitted from my own therapy and I continue to receive therapy, group therapy, and supervision on a weekly basis so that i can support you to the best of my ability. Therapy isn’t always easy, those that live fully have a lot to process.

I could fill this page with the training I’ve received since entering the field at 18 years old. But just know this, I know how to help you. I have had a lot of wonderful and really difficult things happen in my life. I made it through all of them. My experience in life might be totally different from yours, but If I can help you process things that have happened in yours so that you are freed up to enjoy it, I’ve done my job.

My experience ranges from being a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic teaching youth how to protect themselves from HIV/AIDS and STDs and building houses for Habitat for Humanity throughout the Southeastern US. I have worked with the homeless, people with Diabetic foot ulcers trying to save their legs, HIV/AIDS care centers, hospital Social Work, and working with psychiatrists to work with people who are living with anxiety, depression, and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

What I have learned from all of these diverse experiences is that people are doing the best that they can with what they have. Sometimes trauma needs to be processed, blocks cleared, and they need to be reminded of who they are and what they are capable of.

I hope I can be that for you.

How I work

Central to my therapeutic approach is the most important relationship; our relationship.

The therapeutic approach that resonates the most with me is Gestalt therapy. Gestalt is all about the relationship between us. From the way we work problems, to the way we celebrate your accomplishments.. it’s all important. And most importantly, it’s a microcosm for the way you live in the world. Our relationship, and the way we work things out when/if they go wrong… it’s important. Often we go about living our lives without really getting the best view of what that means for us in the way that we communicate with people, the ways we don’t show up fully, and the way we try to take care of others (usually at our own expense). Do you feel me?

Not anymore. I am going to get to know you, the patterns you make in your life, the feelings that are easy for you to feel, and the ones that are not. The strong reactions you have and where they come from. The sadness you hold and what’s made you hold onto it for so long. The things you avoid and the things that you run towards that don’t really serve you. The patterns you seem to repeat and the ones that feel better but that aren’t as shiny and exciting as you think they should be.

I want to know all of it. And because I keep a small practice, I get to know you REALLY well. That is on purpose. I want to know you really well so that we can do our best work.

Modality wise, I also love to use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) if we hit some turbulence that we need to do some processing for you to clear the way to moving forward. I am certified to do Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy and can support you through. your own psychedelic experiences. I keep myself excited and engaged with different options to help you along in your journey.

I love music, cooking, live music, boybands (New Kids on the Block are my fave… I am. Joey girl). I am a mom to a tween and a teen. Social causes are also important to me, especially immigrant rights, gun violence, freedom to protest, health care for all, and inclusivity (to everyone). I enjoy spending time with friends and family.

Therapy with me is…

01 Personalized

My clients are not all the same. They struggle in various stages with different challenges. I look for patterns and influences of different things you have experienced as influencing the way you live now.

.

02 Trustworthy

Your trust in me is important. I do not share your information with anyone. I work with high profile individuals and celebrities regularly. Everyone can trust that I will keep your information private.

03 Introspective

You will a lot of the work in the week between our appointments. You will start to develop an awareness of your responses, feelings, and reactions to things we discuss. This builds over time and I teach this so that you can and will eventually do on your own.

04 open and honest

I am going to say the thing that is honest, always. I expect you do the same. If I fail you or fall short, which I may because I’m human…..I want you to talk to me about it. I might be the first and surely the safest person for you to try out expressing yourself with. Conflict can bring connection, so bring it on. I make sure I take really good care of myself so you don’t have to.
