How I got Donnie Wahlberg to wish me a Happy Birthday 2 years in a row.
Are you living under a rock or did you know I am diagnosably infatuated with New Kids on the Block? I love them. I have seen them in concert so many times I can't count. I definitely could have bought something BIG with the amount of money I've thrown down just to be in the same room with them.
I swear there is a lesson here, stay with me....
I was a teensy bit jealous of my friends who actually KNOW them. Are friends with them. I am not..... yet. I realized that my friends didn't just hope they would be friends, they made it happen! So many things in life don't just manifest themselves without effort. Not that it never happens, but it's a slimmer chance than if you put yourself IN the game. Some of my friends tweet, IG, or TT their way into the New Kids' view. I decided to be a little more focused. I found out that there is an X account that tracks all of the birthdays of NKOTB fans (Blockheads). You send them your birthday and they wish you a happy birthday on the day. Donnie Wahlberg (one of the NKOTB members and Blue Bloods and Boston Blue superstar) is known to wish all of the fans who sign up for the birthday club on X a happy birthday. So last year I got my first shoutout from him. I screamed so loud I woke up my entire house. It made my teenage me excited for the entire year. Donnie Wahlberg wished ME a happy birthday! Now I feel like the sky is the limit. And he did it again YESTERDAY for the second year in a row (but I still screamed for good measure).
So what do you want (really, really want)?
What have you DONE to get it? I once heard this tale of a man praying for God to help him win the lottery, but he never actually bought a lottery ticket. He was angry at God for not winning. God finally said, "You need to actually BUY A TICKET!!!!" Are you buying the ticket to what you want? Are you wanting to get out of debt but instead are just adding to it by buying clothes you don't need? Do you want a relationship but don't actually put yourself out there? Want to process your trauma but keep avoiding going to therapy?
Sweetie, that ain't it. You have got to put in effort to get what you want.
Go and get it.
